80 Never Looked So Good

Highland Park Village Continues Making Retail History

DALLAS, Texas, January 2011 Following a record breaking property acquisition, signing nine new leases in the last 18 months and completing a major renovation of the iconic Village Theatre, Highland Park Village will celebrate 80 successful years as the nation’s first inward facing outdoor shopping center in 2011. In the upcoming year Highland Park Village is planning on approximately six new store openings, all of which will contribute to the ongoing increase in sales per square foot that the property continues to experience year after year.

The family owned center’s long history as the thriving “downtown” of one of the country’s most affluent neighborhoods is a story of auspicious high end retail, as well as nostalgic local shops and restaurants. The center opened in 1931 and according to the Urban Land Institute, Highland Park Village was the first development built with its stores facing away from the access streets, built on a single lot and surrounded by parking areas. Un-bisected by public streets, this site houses individual stores unified under oneimage, built and managed as a unit under single ownership control.

Many milestones have been achieved by the center throughout its tenure as the premier luxury shopping destination in Texas. Hermes and Chanel were two of the first ultra luxury brands to open boutiques in the center, and both stores will be celebrating their 25th anniversaries at Highland Park Village next year. “Hermes is pleased to be celebrating our 25th anniversary in Highland Park Village,” says Bob Chavez, CEO of Hermes International. “Our partnership and business have grown continuously each and every year, and we are proud to be a part of such a special place in a very special community.”

Currently, stores such as Beretta Gallery, Carolina Herrera, Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Harry Winston, Scoop NYC and VINCE have chosen Highland Park Village as there one and only location in Texas. The ownership attributes much of the success of the center to two major factors:

Stronger tenant roster than ever Highland Park Village is unique to other luxury centers in that the selection of offerings includes a grocery store, a shoe repair, and a bakery along with the high end fashion brands such as Chanel, Hermes, Jimmy Choo and Escada. Most recently, a particular focus has been on securing designers such as Diane von Furstenberg and Stella McCartney, to also welcome a younger, fashion-forward customer. Highland Park Village is also proud to be called home by several successful local retailers such as Hadleigh’s, a lifestyle atelier that provides a range of bespoke clothing made to order, and Peeper’s, a popular fashion eyewear boutique with sales over $1800 per square foot.

Consistent on-site management and ownership Highland Park Village has been family owned and managed since opening in 1931. The property has been sold only three times in its entire history, most recently in May of 2009 to HP Village Partners, LP, an entity comprised of two sisters and their husbands, all natives and lifelong residents of Highland Park. With an acute attention to detail, well established relationships with store managers and staff, and a sincere interest in day to day happenings, the Highland Park Village ownership is committed to continuing the high standards to which the clientele and retailers have become accustomed.

Throughout 2011, Highland Park Village will celebrate its 80th birthday through various special events, openings and charity partnerships including a Mediterranean restaurant opening from Alberto Lombardi, a festive Fashion’s Night Out party in September, and the outpouring of philanthropic support from the Highland Park Village Foundation.

Highland Park Village is a favorite among locals, as it has been for generations. Built in 1931 and widely regarded as the country’s first true shopping center, the Village is internationally recognized for its architectural significance and mix of the world’s best-known upscale retailers including Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Escada, Harry Winston, Hermès, Jimmy Choo, Ralph Lauren and Tory Burch. It is a treasured part of the community and offers several annual events including a special holiday celebration and horse-drawn carriage rides each winter. In 2000, Highland Park Village was named a National Historic Landmark. Highland Park Village Gift Cards are available for purchase by calling 214.443.9898. Complimentary valet parking is available.
