Dallas Film Society & the Town of Highland Park Celebrate 100 Years with the Highland Park Film Festival

The Dallas Film Society has announced it is collaborating with the Highland Park Centennial Committee to present a summer Highland Park Film Festival as part of the town’s year-long centennial celebration. The festival will focus on six films of different genres that best encapsulate cinema of the last 100 years. It will be held at the Highland Park Village Theater at 7:00p.m on the first and third Monday of June, July and August 2013. The screenings are free and open to the public.

“100 years of Highland Park is a celebration to be shared with the entire community and what better way to connect our community than with a film festival that allows people to reflect on the passage of time,” said Pierce Allman, Chair of the Highland Park Centennial Celebration. “Together with James Faust of the Dallas Film Society and the Chair of our Film Festival, Harry Hunsicker, we have selected a spectacle of Oscar-nominated films from the era when movies were entertainment: black and white, detective, westerns and musicals. For the young it will open their eyes to the cinematic delicacies of the last 100 years and for our mature audience it will transport them back to the thrill of their early theatergoing experiences when the Village Theater first opened in 1935.”

The schedule of films is as follows:
June 3, 2013 LAWRENCE OF ARABIA
June 17, 2013 THE THIN MAN
July 1, 2013 YANKEE DOODLE DANDY
July 15, 2013 SUNSET BOULEVARD
August 5, 2013 THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE
August 19, 2013 THE SOUND OF MUSIC

Availability for all screenings is on a first-come, first-serve basis. For patrons who want to give back, at each screening the Committee will be accepting tax-deductible donations for the landscaping of the new Highland Park Town Hall, which will be completed in spring 2014.

Other Highland Park Centennial events include La Fiesta on June 8, 2013, the annual Park Cities July 4 parade, and the Centennial Sunday Community Birthday Party Celebration on October 27, 2013.
