Get to Know…Tory Burch

The Tory Burch boutique opened in Highland Park Village in February 2006.

The Tory Burch store arrived in Highland Park Village in February 2006, just two years after the brand’s launch in 2004.

Iconic American lifestyle brand Tory Burch embodies the personal style and sensibility of the New York City designer and entrepreneur. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, Burch made the move to New York and began a career in fashion working for designers like Ralph Lauren and Vera Wang. It wasn’t long before she got the urge to create a fashion line of her own. Burch began conceptualizing the company when she noticed a white space in the market. At the time, there was luxury designer and mass-market, with no middle ground. She saw an opportunity to fill the void by providing beautiful clothes with a designer aesthetic that didn’t cost a fortune, pioneering the concept of accessible luxury.

In 2004 Burch’s vision came to life and the company officially launched with a small boutique on Elizabeth Street in Manhattan. With a classic yet bohemian aesthetic, the company has since grown into a global business with over 250 boutiques across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia and Australia. Today, Tory Burch offers everything from ready-to-wear, shoes, handbags, accessories, watches, home and fragrance.

Pioneering the concept of accessible luxury, Tory Burch offers ready-to-wear apparel, handbags, shoes and other accessories.

A little over a decade later in 2015, the company launched Tory Sport, a collection inspired by the grace and strength of athletes that balances high-tech functional fabrics and classic designs with a retro vibe.

The company is deep-rooted in inspiring people around the world to live in full color with character, beauty and confidence. As a dedicated philanthropist, Burch launched the Tory Burch foundation in 2009 to advance women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship in the United States by providing access to capital, education and digital resources, as well as a Fellowship program.

Tory Burch launched her fashion line from the comfort of her own NYC apartment.

The successful designer and entrepreneur first launched her fashion brand and began designing clothes in her kitchen.

The latest Tory Burch designs can be found in the Resort 2019 Collection, inspired by “all the things Burch loves” such as stripes, longer hemlines and relaxed silhouettes. The collection also gives a nod to the designer’s favorite book, The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, in a watercolor print named Daydream. Expect classic pieces updated with fun new details, like the timeless white cotton shirt now with scalloped or elongated collar, or an easy denim dress now featuring a ruffled placket.

The collection’s color palette consists of a range of neutrals from black, white, stone, agave and a spectrum of blue hues and the occasional pop of pink and gold. There are plays of texture throughout with embroidered embellishments, soft pleats and subtle smocking. The Resort accessories carry on the less-is-more mood with easy totes, flat sandals, wide-brimmed straw hats and lemon and clementine shaped pendants.
