It was a pleasant surprise to spot Academy Award-winning actress Reese Witherspoon in Highland Park Village yesterday. The bigger surprise was that she seemed to have connections to so many of the locals.
Witherspoon was with her husband, CAA agent Jim Toth. The couple was leaving HPV’s Lafco boutique when they ran into Troy Aikman, who lives around the corner.
“I had never met her before,” Aikman says. “I reminded her that she looked at my house in Montecito [Calif.] years ago. She remembered the house and loved it, but they ended up buying in Ojai, instead.”
A closer connection was made when Witherspoon and Toth bumped into photographer Laura Wilson and chatted. Witherspoon co-stars with Wilson’s middle son, Owen Wilson, in the recently completed Paul Thomas Anderson film, Inherent Vice.
She also co-starred with youngest son, Luke Wilson, in Legally Blonde.
So, what the heck were Witherspoon and Toth doing in Highland Park Village? One is forced to put two and two together. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Witherspoon has launched a lifestyle company called Draper James. The folks at E! Online call it “Goop-like,” comparing it to Gwyneth Paltrow’s company, which opened a pop-up store in the Village this week.
Further, we’re told that Witherspoon had lunch at Bistro 31 with Highland Park Village owners Elisa and Stephen Summers and Heather and Ray Washburne. So, stay tuned.
