Meet Stacey Walker with The Salvation Army

STACEY WALKER, THE SALVATION ARMY

Explain The Salvation Army’s mission and how you got involved with the organization.

The Salvation Army provides services to fight poverty, addiction and homelessness. My family has supported the Salvation Army for many years. This year I am honored to serve as Chair of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary Fashion Show & Luncheon.

Tell us a little about yourself and your background.

I grew up in Houston and graduated from Washington & Lee University in Virginia. I met my husband in Dallas in 1995, and we raised our son and daughter here. My first job was at Neiman Marcus, and I worked in retail until I became a stay-at-home mom.

What makes The Salvation Army so special and impactful to the Dallas community?

The Salvation Army is unique in that it provides services to combat three of society’s greatest ills – poverty, addiction and homelessness. The Army does all this while spreading the gospel and the love of Jesus. The Salvation Army is the largest social service provider in North Texas.

What do you enjoy the most about being a part of the The Salvation Army organization?

The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary was founded in 1990 by Margot Perot to support the work of the Salvation Army in North Texas. The membership of SAWA includes women from all walks of life and is truly multi-generational. It has given me the opportunity to serve alongside my mother and provide an example to my daughter. I have met and become friends with so many remarkable women through my service.

How does support from community partners like Highland Park Village help The Salvation Army have a greater impact?

The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary Fashion Show has been a signature fundraiser for 32 years. Having Highland Park Village as our Runway Sponsor has been an invaluable partnership. The stores in the Village donate new clothes that walk in our Runway Show and are then auctioned off to raise critical funds for the Salvation Army’s programs.
