Highland Park Village is all about chic, local and artisan-made Treats

Branded from the canopies down to the trash cans, Local Artisan Market in Highland Park Village convenes Saturday on the sidewalks across the parking lot from the clock tower and in front of Theory.

* Macarons, cruffins and breakfast croissants from Bisous Bisous Patisserie.

* Texas Olive Ranch olive oils made from Texas-grown olives, including a handful of limited reserve single-varieties, such as Greek Koroneiki. (The regular Meyer-lemon olive oil is a fixture in my kitchen for salads and fish.)

* Sweet Virginia’s Toffee mixed into organic popcorn. It’s seasonal and will go away as soon as the weather heats up.

* Becerra’s Tamales, those light, ambrosial tamales from Victor Valdez, plus his salsas. (I can’t get enough of the tart salsa verde made with tomatillos.)

Other familiar faces include Kessler Pie Company, Designs by Diana (jarred goodies), Mother Beverage infused apple cider vinegar (the next great probiotic beverage after kombucha), White Rock Granola and more. If you miss the market, Royal Blue Grocery in Highland Park Village carries a lot of the locals in-store.

Special events

The Bake Sale pop-up bakery is back. Just in time for Easter and not too late for Passover shopping, bakers Lily Hanson and Skye Daniel do their pop-up number with challah, sweet Easter bread, chocolate macaroons and Semolina Orange Cardamom cake among other temptations. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Urban Goods, 1410 N. Fitzhugh Ave., next to Urbano Café and down the block from Jimmy’s Food Store.

Finally, Lola’s Local Market’s Easter event in Melissa includes 5,000 eggs for kids to hunt and an array of family fun, plus Lola the pig and her friends and the usual market items, from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday.
