Tell us a little about yourselves and what led you to your job here at Highland Park Village?
I was born and raised in Dallas and now reside in Frisco. My first job after graduating was working for another Dallas real estate developer as the assistant manager of a large office complex in downtown Dallas. In November of 1991, a close friend of mine told me that the property manager position for Highland Park Village was available. I took a leap of faith and have never regretted making the move.
How long have you been leading the charge in the HP Village Management department?
I have been involved in the management and leasing of Highland Park Village for 29 years, which included working for the previous owners, the Henry S. Miller family. I took off a year, but missed it so much, that I contacted Ray and Stephen after hearing of their recent purchase of the Village. What started out to be a part-time job helping them with the transition as new owners, turned into a full-time job in a short period of time.
What’s your favorite or most unique thing about what you do?
I have seen so many changes in the center since starting in 1991. It’s been very rewarding to be able to execute the “vision” each owner has had for this beautiful shopping center. It’s not always an easy task given the age of the center. What you think might be a simple and relatively easy task, at times, turns into a major undertaking. Another favorite part of my job is working with each new tenant through the leasing and construction process, which in some cases, can take a year or more. It’s a great feeling knowing you’ve had a hand in getting these tenants to their grand opening day!
How long have you personally been visiting Highland Park Village?
I remember years ago shopping with my mom and sister here, and then having lunch at the S&S Tea Room.
What do you enjoy most about the Highland Park Village community?
I love that the Village is so beautiful and unique, and that it attracts people from all over. My favorite time of year is the “magic” we create for the Christmas holidays. I’m proud to be a part of a place that is so special to so many people.
Are there any secret or fun facts you can share about the Village, the office, or yourself?
When I came to work at the Village in 1991, the security staff had a bet going that I could not last in this position for more than 6 months. I am happy that I was able to prove them wrong!
What are some of your other favorite spots around the Village?
Because I’ve gotten to know so many owners and employees in each of the different stores over the years, it is hard to have just a few! I enjoy popping in and out of each on a regular basis and I have made many great friends along the way.
