Get to Know…Dale Sinclair

Tell us a little about yourself and what led you to your job at The Village Barber Shop?

I’m from Mount Vernon, a small Texas town about an hour and a half outside of Dallas. I went to barber school in Oak Cliff and finished in September 1972.

How long have you been leading the charge at the Barber Shop?

The Village Barber Shop opened in Highland Park Village in 1936 and the owner was a family friend from my hometown. So, when he was ready to retire, I took over the shop in 1981, almost 40 years now.

What’s your favorite or most unique thing about what you do?

Talking to all the people. It’s so unique to give people their first haircuts and then watch them grow up.

How long have you personally been visiting Highland Park Village?

Since I started here, 40 years!

What do you enjoy most about the Highland Park Village community?

The small town feel. So many customers know each other and visit with one another in the shop. It’s a wonderful place to come and socialize.

Are there any secret or fun facts you can share about the center, your shop, or yourself?

The Barber Shop used to be where Mi Cocina’s kitchen is now. We moved upstairs to the second level in 1978 with a few other service businesses. In 1981 we put barber things – scissors, neck dusters, etc. – in a time capsule in the middle of the parking lot. I think it’s still buried.

What are some of your other favorite spots around Highland Park Village?

Royal Blue Grocery and, of course, the Dallas staple, Mi Cocina.
