Get to Know…Elizabeth Robertson

Elizabeth Robertson HeadshotELIZABETH ROBERTSON

Tell us a little about yourself and what led you to your job at Highland Park Village.

Al Hill Jr. was a lifelong friend of mine. After purchasing the property, Al immediately asked me to help with the landscaping. I was so flattered and had no formal landscape architecture training. I do, however, know what grows well in this Dallas climate. Our premise was simple, “We do not want to see dirt!” We wanted flowers everywhere! As my role progressed over the years, I began doing the holiday decor. We started with a single Christmas tree to compliment the extraordinary tree lights that are such a trademark of the Village. We followed by adding angels for the light posts and the Twelve Days of Christmas signs. Soon, we were sourcing giant Easter eggs and topiary bunnies in the spring to create a magical photo opportunity for families to enjoy. The giant pumpkins and oversized mums quickly followed. The fountains came after Al passed away. Ray (Washburne) said, “We need fountains!” We found them and ensured the inside tiles were the perfect shade of blue.

How long have you been working with Highland Park Village?

I have worked with the Village since Mr. Hill’s family purchased it in 2009.

What is your favorite or most unique thing about what you do?

My favorite part of creating these beautiful outdoor spaces is watching the children and families enjoy them. One rainy day I was having lunch at Café Pacific, which sits across from the Easter display. I looked out the window to see a little girl holding an umbrella, so her mother could get a picture of her and the topiary bunnies. It was so touching to see someone enjoy something I had created so much that they were willing to stand in the rain.

How long have you personally been visiting Highland Park Village?

I have been visiting Highland Park Village since I was a child. I took ballet and tap from the Kingsbury sisters next door to the movie theater!

What do you enjoy most about the Highland Park Village community?

I enjoy the individuals of the Village community the most. We are all a team working together. There is an authentic enthusiasm for the Village amongst everyone in this community. We all use our talents to create a unique atmosphere. A great example of this is David Ramirez. David worked under Todd Roberts but stayed when Lambert’s Landscape Company took over the landscaping at the Village. He is always ready to help and always smiling. Plus, he knows where everything is!

What’s a fun fact that most people don’t know about you?

I have run an interior design company for over 40 years and continue to do so!

Lastly, where would we most likely find you in Highland Park Village?

You will most likely find me walking the grounds early in the morning with Evie Kincaid of Lambert’s Landscape Company. Evie and I are constantly inspecting and updating the landscaping. Lambert’s is a wonderful team to work with and quick to find solutions.
