Get to Know…Kim Quinn with The Salvation Army

Kim Quinn HeadshotKIM QUINN, THE SALVATION ARMY WOMEN’S AUXILIARY

Explain The Salvation Army’s mission and how you got involved with the organization.

The Salvation Army’s mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ meeting human needs in His name without discrimination. Every program offered is rooted in our passion to serve God by serving the lost, the vulnerable, the needy, the poor, the hurting, the helpless, and the hopeless.

I was exposed to the Women’s Auxiliary through a good friend. After touring a Family Emergency Shelter and participating in stuffing backpacks for children, I realized how the Army works to fight poverty, addiction, and homelessness and wanted to be more involved.

Tell us a little about yourself and your background.

I grew up in Memphis and attended Southern Methodist University, where I met my husband, Terry. We have three sons and a black lab named Echo. I enjoy spending time with family, friends or volunteering. I am actively involved with the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, The Crystal Charity Ball, La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas and The Senior Source.

What makes The Salvation Army so special and impactful to the Dallas community?

The Salvation Army serves our most vulnerable neighbors and provides programs for people in need to put their lives back on track. The impact can start small such as providing a Bible to a child at an emergency shelter, providing mattresses to the Adult Rehabilitation Center where adults go to overcome addiction, or providing short-term emergency housing for a family until they can get back on track to leading a fulfilling life.

What do you enjoy the most about being a part of The Salvation Army organization?

I love the fellowship of the Women’s Auxiliary. You can be as involved as your schedule permits. You can serve meals with your friends at local food pantries or put together Santa Sacks for children at Christmas time and, of course, attending the annual Fashion Show & Luncheon.

How does support from community partners like Highland Park Village help The Salvation Army have a greater impact?

Highland Park Village has been a long-time partner with the Salvation Army Fashion Show & Luncheon. Highland Park Village’s support not only helps us raise community awareness but also creates excitement at the event by providing beautiful clothing looks that are donated to the runway show and then auctioned off. This is a huge draw for all our luncheon attendees who are able to bid on these looks along with gently used clothing from the closets of some of the most fashionable women in Dallas.

What are some ways people in North Texas can get involved with The Salvation Army?

You can join the Women’s Auxiliary by visiting our website. Through the Auxiliary, you can ring the Red Kettle Bells at Christmas, help collect toys for the Christmas Angel Trees, serve meals at local shelters or sort groceries at local food pantries. There are many other ways to be involved as well.

Where would we most likely find you in Highland Park Village?

I could eat at Café Pacific and Mi Cocina every day! I love Carolina Herrera, Etro, and Valentino, but really just being anywhere in Highland Park Village makes me happy.

Highland Park Village is proud to spotlight our very own dynamic personalities and community partners in the Village Voices series. Get to know our past features.
